Kroegeor Green Sentencing

Washington, DC / November 12, 2024: Today at 2:30pm, Kroegeor (Jackson) Green will be sentenced in DC District Court at 333 Constitution Ave NW, Room 4025 for his ‘crime’ of twice calling attention to the ongoing and escalating environmental crimes against humanity, which our elected officials are ignoring.

Last year for Veteran’s Day, on November 16th, Koegeor went to The Shaw 54th Regiment Memorial at the National Gallery of Art where he painted “Honor Them” on the wall, next to the display, with washable finger paint. No lasting harm was done to the museum while people in marginalized communities are disproportionally being harmed by the climate crisis daily Kroegoer said of this action:

"I wrote the words “Honor Them” to say two things. First, the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment was the first Black regiment to be allowed to form in the North in order to serve in the Civil War. They fought and many died to end slavery. We should honor them by remembering them and what they did. And second, we should honor them by carrying on their work. So, I say, “Joe Biden must declare a climate emergency.” in their honor because the great majority of the people who are being harmed by the climate emergency now and who will be harmed in the future are people who look like the soldiers of the Massachusetts 54th."

At his February 14th action at the National Archives, Green sprinkled red powder on the protective case containing the US Constitution. The tempera paint powder was selected because it would do no harm, and indeed no powder entered the case.

Green acted in collaboration with Donald Zepeda, both representing the climate action group Declare Emergency, which since 2022, has been disrupting the illusion of normalcy and demanding the president declare a climate emergency. Similar to Greta Thunberg’s Fridays for Future, Just Stop Oil, Extinction Rebellion, and many others internationally, we illustrate the quickly escalating humanitarian and ecological crises that can be curtailed with changes in systems.

Despite lack of evidence that any damage was done, both Green and Zepeda were charged with felony destruction of government property. Donald Zepeda will be sentenced on Friday, November 15th at 2:30pm in the same room.

At his trial, Judge Amy Berman Jackson, in denial of the current planetary emergency, berated Green for his lack of concern for others. Green acted on behalf of humanity in dramatizing the inattention of our leaders to our quickly worsening climate. Paraphrasing the Constitution’s promises, Green at his action stated, ‘This country is founded on the conditions that all men are created equally and endowed with the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We all deserve clean air, food and a livable climate.’

Green has already spent more than 4 months in jail. Judge Jackson’s sentence is anticipated to be harsh. Please come support this ordinary person who acted heroically to save us.
