Declare Emergency Supports Tim Martin Ahead of Upcoming Trial
Washington, D.C. — April 2, 2025 — Declare Emergency, a grassroots organization dedicated to nonviolent civil disobedience to address the climate crisis, stands in solidarity with our core team member, Tim Martin, as his trial was scheduled to start on April Fools Day at the Prettyman U.S. Courthouse in Washington, D.C.
Tim was an integral part of Declare Emergency's Media & Messaging team, leading efforts to communicate the urgency of the climate crisis to the public. His commitment to our mission of raising awareness and building community resistance to harms from the coming climate shocks has been unwavering. His upcoming trial stems from his involvement in the "Little Dancer" action with Joanna Smith, a peaceful demonstration at the National Gallery of Art advocating for immediate and comprehensive climate repairs by the US Government.
The trial is expected to conclude by April 7, 2025. Proceedings will take place in Courtroom #25 of the Prettyman U.S. Courthouse, located at 333 Constitution Avenue Northwest, Washington, D.C. Jury selection concluded on April 2 and opening statements will begin on April 3rd. We encourage supporters and community members to attend in person to show solidarity and witness the judicial process firsthand.
While attending the trial is vital, we must continue exemplifying courageous nonviolent civil disobedience to pressure the US Government to reverse its disastrous climate policies. For those unable to attend, we urge participation in ongoing initiatives that demand the urgent and decisive climate activism that we desperately require to slow the inevitable social and ecological collapse due to existing atmospheric carbon pollution.
Declare Emergency will not be silenced. We remain committed to mass public mobilization and nonviolent resistance aimed at pressuring the President of the United States to confront this issue and protect future generations. We proudly stand with Tim Martin and every courageous individual protecting the dignity of all life on Earth. You can follow along during trial on our X or Bluesky.
